The STS Charles D. Striffler Internship Award

This award is given to honor the ideals of service and scholarship, which Professor Charles Striffler both represented and cultivated in his five years as the first director of the STS College Park Scholars Program.

Eligibility: STS Scholars Alums (received program citation) still enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park that expect to have an upcoming summer internship (paid or unpaid) may apply.

Applications are reviewed by a committee of three faculty members and two STS citation recipients. Evaluation of proposals are based on a combination of need for the funds and student ability to connect their internship to the ideals of service and scholarship. Applications are evaluated on the following criteria:

  1. What will you intellectually and personally gain from the internship?
  2. Demonstration of how STS system thinking skills might be applied to your internship
  3. Connecting your internship to societal needs.

Dr. Tomblin is not part of the review committee. He organizes the committee and administers the award process.

Applications are typically due in mid-May. Contact Christina (cyang227@umd.edu) for more details.
