The STS Programs are supported by a highly engaged community of Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UTAs), Undergraduate Teaching Fellows (UTFs), Academic Peer Mentors (AMPs), Undergraduate Research Assistants (URAs), and more who are passionate about working with their peers.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UTAs)

Courses: CPSS100 & CPSS101

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • UTAs will be in charge of one discussion section of no more than 18 students which meets once a week for anywhere from 20-60 minutes.
  • UTFs will be responsible for grading course assignments and providing constructive feedback on those assessments.
  • Attend a mandatory UTA meeting every week on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm, during which they will be oriented to the following week’s script for discussion.  

Time Commitment: The duties associated with this position require approximately 8 hours of work per week.

Course: CPSS240

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • UTAs will be in charge of transporting and supporting one school group of no more than 5-6 students planning and executing a robotics service learning program in partnership with PGCPS.
  • UTAs will hold 3 hours of office hours each week, which covers communicating with students about coursework, providing support with Lego Spike robots, and grading.
  • UTAs will be responsible for grading lesson plans and providing constructive feedback on those lesson plans.

Time Commitment: The duties associated with this position require approximately 5 hours of work per week.

Undergraduate Teaching Fellows (UTFs)

Courses: ENEE/S200 Technology and Consequences

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • UTFs will be in charge of one section (“Lab”) of no more than 18 students which meets once a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes. 
  • UTFs will hold 3 hours of office hours each week, which covers communicating with students about coursework and grading responsibilities.
  • UTFs will be responsible for grading course assignments, including ABET assessments, and providing constructive feedback on those assessments.
  • Attend a mandatory UTF meeting every week on Wednesdays from 4:45-6pm, during which they will be oriented to the upcoming lab script.  
  • Complete at least one peer observation and feedback session over the course of the semester. 

Time Commitment: The duties associated with this position require approximately 8 hours of work per week, which includes lab time, a weekly script meeting, and grading/office hours.

Academic Peer Mentors (AMPs)

Courses: ENEE/S200 Technology and Consequences

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • AMPs support students by facilitating discussions and in-class activities, twice a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes per class.
  • AMPs will attend class sessions and weekly meetings, plus an additional 2 hours of outside-of-class class support each week.

Time Commitment: The duties associated with this position require approximately 5 hours of work per week.
